5 Minute Timer

Press start and this 5 minute timer counts down 300 seconds to zero — full screen if you want it, with a gentle chime or a silent green flash when time is up. The 5 minute timer is one of the most-used timers on the web: roughly 450,000 US searches a month (Semrush, 2026). This page is free, with no ads and no sign-up, works offline once loaded, remembers your volume on this device, and shows the exact clock time it will finish — so one glance tells you where you stand. It is built for Pomodoro breaks, brew steeping, and quick stretch reminders.

Frequently asked questions

Why is 5 minutes the classic Pomodoro break?

The original Pomodoro Technique specifies a 5 minute break after each 25 minute work block, long enough to stand, stretch, and rest your eyes, short enough not to break flow. But plenty of practitioners argue for longer breaks; that is exactly why the tickfern Pomodoro timer lets you set your own rhythm instead of locking you to 25/5.

How do I make the 5 minute full screen?

Press Start, then click the Fullscreen button (or press F). The whole window becomes nothing but the timer: digits big enough to read from across a classroom or office. Press Esc to leave full screen; the timer keeps running either way.

Does the 5 minute make a sound when time is up?

Only if you want it to. The default chime is a soft, synthesized two-note tone, not a harsh buzzer. Drag the volume slider to set the level, or mute it entirely: when muted, the screen flashes fern green instead, so a silent room stays silent. Your setting is remembered on this device.

Can I use the 5 minute offline?

Yes. The page is a single self-contained file with no external requests beyond Cloudflare’s privacy-respecting, cookie-less page-view counting, and it installs as a PWA: after your first visit, the timer keeps working with no network at all. That makes it reliable on school networks, planes, and dead zones.

How many seconds is 5 minutes?

5 minutes is exactly 300 seconds. If you need a different length, the All timers page links every preset from 1 to 90 minutes and 1 hour, and each page switches between a shrinking-disc view and plain digits.
